AnMed Health LifeFlight is a agreement between AnMed
Health and Med-Trans to provide helicopter service to the Medical Center. Air
travel turns a 35-minute drive into a 10-minute flight, allowing patients to
receive life-saving care even faster.
Improving cardiac care Every minute of a heart attack is
a minute your heart goes without oxygen. The faster doctors can restore oxygen
flow to your heart, the better the chances are that they can decrease permanent
damage.
As soon as physicians diagnose a heart attack, LifeFlight is notified and
nurses start preparing the patient for transport. According to the American
College of Cardiology, the optimal door-to-balloon time - the time from your
arrival at the emergency room to doctors opening your arteries - is 90 minutes
or less. From most hospitals in northeast Georgia, patients could be on the
helicopter within 40 minutes and into AnMed Health's heart catherization lab in
about an hour.
Meet the LifeFlight crew Caring for patients in the air
are critical care flight nurses and specially trained flight paramedics.
LifeFlight's pilots have thousands of hours of experience and possess Class II
Medical Certificates and Commercial Helicopter / Instrument Ratings. The third
part of the LifeFlight team is the flight coordinator. Flight coordinators are
licensed EMTs with at least two years experience. They are responsible for
processing flight requests, initiating missions and providing flight following
for the aircraft.
About the aircraft LifeFlight uses a Bell 407. With a top
speed of 160 miles per hour, the Bell 407 is one of the most popular EMS
helicopters in the industry.
